Rare Breed Triggers FRT-15C3™ Forced Reset Trigger
Price: $451.00
Let’s cut through the noise and talk straight about the Rare Breed FRT-15C3. This isn’t just another trigger. It’s a mechanical re-engineering of the AR-15 fire control group that changes how you interact with your rifle. We stock it because it’s a serious piece of kit for serious shooters who understand the platform.
How It Works: The Simple Explanation
Your standard AR-15 uses a disconnector. You pull the trigger to fire. When the bolt cycles, it trips the disconnector, which physically disconnects the trigger from the sear. You must release the trigger to re-engage the disconnector before you can fire again. That’s the “reset.”
The FRT-15C3 changes that sequence. Its mechanism uses the energy of the bolt carrier group moving forward into battery to physically shove the trigger forward, forcing that reset to happen automatically. You keep steady rearward pressure on the trigger. The gun fires, the bolt cycles, the FRT mechanism slams the trigger forward (you feel it), and your maintained pressure immediately pulls it to fire again. One round per trigger pull, but the reset is mechanical, not dependent on your finger movement.
What This Means on the Range
You get dramatically faster, more consistent split times. It eliminates the physical lag of your finger having to release and repull for each shot. The rate of fire is controlled by your rifle’s cycle speed, not your finger speed. It requires a steady, maintained pull. It’s a different type of shooting discipline that, when mastered, offers performance you simply can’t get with a traditional semi-auto trigger.
Key Features & Specifications
- 3-Position Selector (Safe/Semi/FRT): Comes with a 3-position ambidextrous safety selector. Safe is safe. Semi is a superb two-stage trigger. Flip to FRT for forced-reset function.
- Semi-Automatic Mode: A clean, crisp two-stage pull. About 2.5 lbs of take-up, a defined wall, then a clean break at around 4-4.5 lbs total. It’s a great trigger on its own.
- FRT Mode: A heavier, consistent single-stage pull around 5-5.5 lbs throughout the travel. This is the weight you maintain during forced-reset operation.
- Duty-Grade Construction: Made in the USA from 7075-T6 aluminum and heat-treated S7 tool steel. This thing is built to last and withstand high round counts.
- Drop-In Design with Anti-Walk Pins: Installs like any aftermarket trigger group. Includes anti-walk pins to keep everything solid under rapid fire.
What You NEED for Reliable Function
This is critical. The FRT-15C3 is a mechanically timed device. Your rifle needs to be set up correctly.
- Full-Auto Compatible Bolt Carrier Group (FA-BCG): This is non-negotiable. The FRT mechanism interacts with the auto-sear trip shelf on the bottom of a FA-BCG. A semi-auto carrier will not work.
- Heavier Buffer: You need to slow your bolt carrier down. We strongly recommend an H2 or H3 buffer, or an A5 buffer system. A standard carbine buffer will likely cause malfunctions and excessive wear.
- MIL-SPEC Lower Receiver: Compatible with standard MIL-SPEC AR-15 lowers. It will NOT fit Colt or other lowers with an integrated sear block/shelf.
- Quality Ammunition & Magazine: Use full-power ammunition and reliable magazines. Under-powered ammo or weak mag springs can cause cycling issues.
The Legal Talk (Plain English)
The FRT-15C3 is designed as a trigger for a semi-automatic firearm. It fires one round per function of the trigger. The trigger must be pulled rearward for each shot. Its mechanical operation distinguishes it from other devices. As with any product that pushes boundaries, its regulatory status has been contested. Rare Breed Triggers has defended its product legally. It is your responsibility to understand current federal, state, and local laws before purchasing. We will not ship to jurisdictions where such items are prohibited.
Who This Is For
This trigger is for experienced AR-15 owners who are tinkerers and understand gas system tuning. It’s for shooters who want to explore the mechanical limits of the platform and are willing to adjust their rifle and their technique to match. It’s not a “plug and play” gimmick; it’s a precision component that demands a proper setup. If you enjoy the mechanics of the rifle as much as the shooting, this is a fascinating and highly effective upgrade.
